Sustainability at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) represents the university’s long-term commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and efficient resource management within the campus and wider community. UTHM began its formal sustainability journey when the university leadership established a dedicated Sustainable Campus Office (SCO) in 2010 to lead and coordinate sustainability efforts systematically and strategically across the institution. Sustainable Campus Office The Sustainable Campus Office (SCO) was created to provide administrative leadership and coordination for all green campus initiatives. The office aims to integrate smart, innovative, and environmentally sustainable solutions into campus operations and planning. SCO works as the central unit to drive UTHM’s green vision through coordinated efforts among staff, students, and partners. Sustainable Campus Office UTHM’s sustainability mission focuses on building a low carbon, resilient, and resource-efficient campus. The university aspires to continuously improve performance in energy use, water conservation, waste management, mobility, biodiversity, and carbon reduction by implementing green policies and initiatives. This approach aligns with global sustainability goals and supports Malaysia’s movement toward a low carbon society. Sustainable Campus Office To support sustainability, UTHM established the Sustainable Champion Team (SCT) in 2017, which works under SCO to lead green initiatives, integrate environmental practices into daily operations, and promote sustainability awareness within the campus community. SCT’s objectives include reducing energy consumption, minimizing water usage, improving waste management, and embedding sustainability into planning and campus development. Sustainable Campus Office UTHM also adopts a low carbon vision, committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and foster environmentally conscious behavior among all campus members. Efforts such as sustainable mobility programs (e.g., green transport options) and low carbon awareness campaigns are part of UTHM’s integrated strategies to support a healthier and greener campus. Sustainable Campus Office +1 Through these ongoing initiatives, UTHM aims to produce graduates who not only excel academically but also value environmental sustainability and contribute positively to society and future generations.
